Brighter Steppings `Job Shadowing` programme engages young people in a day placement programme with the local authority, councillors, local employers/ employees and MPs in order to connect young people with role models in Barking and Dagenham.

Become familiar with the demand of the workplace of professionals and businesses 

Also get the opportunity to talk to the assigned professional to find out more about the skills and qualification needed for a career in that sector.  

You must be aged 13-19 to apply for this free programme.

Please note

You are required to share your job shadowing experiences with brighter steppings coordinators. Therefore you need to fill in an evaluation report form at the end of your job shadowing.

What is Job Shadowing?
We want to connect young people with role models in Barking and Dagenham through a day placing programme with local authority, councillors, local employers/ employees and MPs.

What is Brighter Steppings?

Brighter Steppings aims to equip young people with employability skills through Job Shadowing by providing support in getting young people to experience what it is like to be working in a professional environments. 

Who can apply to be a Job Shadow?

Any professional/ organisation/ company/ agencies working within the borough of Barking and Dagenham.  


How much time will it take?

The Job Shadowing only last for between 2 to 6 hours a day with different fixed days depending on arrangements.


Does it involve being trained?

No, Brighter Steppings representative will liaise with you to make the arrangements and also present with the young person on the day of Job Shadowing.


How do you become a Job Shadow?

Why get involved with Job Shadowing?

39% of young people said they don’t have anybody to look up to. You will help to inspire, give local young people just the start they need and be a role model to young people. It could be one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do.
